Isaac Pierce: A Rush of Days

May 23, 2016 By admin Leave a Comment

IsaacPierceJust a quick shout today whilst I’m digitizing a cool sound installation project by the estimable Rebecca Gates. I was fortunate to be able to help Isaac Pierce with the production of his recent album “A Rush of Days.” In addition to being a sweet and lovely guy, Isaac writes songs that are beautiful, raw, tender, fierce and heartbreaking, often all at once. You can find the completed album on bandcamp.

On a technical note, Isaac brought the session in on a Tascam 388, a “prosumer” open-reel 8-track that’s experiencing something of a renaissance of late. To be perfectly blunt, its popularity is a bit of a head-scratcher to me; in my experience some genres–I’m thinking of old garage rock–can benefit from this narrow-track format, but often what comes out of the deck is a bit muddy for my taste.

In any event, that didn’t stop Isaac from making a beautiful record with his! The only recording on my end was some judicious reamping to give certain tracks a bit more life. You can hear the results on the page linked above, or check in with Isaac on his site.
